This page describes the facilities available to users and how they can access and add to content in an Alfresco site.

How Users Access Alfresco

Users can log in to Alfresco from any standard browser by pointing it at one of the following URLs…

  • URL:8080/alfresco will present the user with a guest dashboard
  • URL:8080/share presents the user with a login screen

Alfresco Windows Web Client

For Windows users, the default installation provides a direct access link, which simply corresponds to the URL:8080/alfresco address mentioned above. Do Start|Programs|Alfresco Labs|Alfresco Web Client to start a browser session with your default server (e.g. localhost:8080).

Content Upload Via the Web Interface

The simplest way of uploading files to a share is via the web interface.

  • Log in to the web interface
  • Select the site you wish to work with from the My Sites listing.
  • Select Document Library from the toolbar to display the site dashboard.
  • Click the Upload button to show a file selection dialogue.
  • Click the Browse button (clicking in the filename text box has the same effect).
  • Select the required file and click the Open button.
  • Click the Upload File button and the document is added to the site.
