C is now one of the longest established languages still in general use. Much of its attraction stems from its simplicity and the attendant flexibility this confers.

The other side of that coin is that C will happily permit the programmer to do anything, including trash the entire computer. For this reason, sound design and good programming practices are essential to produce maintainable code.
