The Challenge

Rapid growth had left a consumer retailer with fragmented data, disconnected systems and slow manual reporting. Teams lacked a consistent view of stock, sales and customer information, making it difficult to make informed decisions and establish a single source of truth across the business.

The organisation needed a structured data strategy that would improve governance, standardise core data and provide a scalable foundation for future reporting and analytics.

Our Approach

We shaped the data programme around the reporting decisions the retailer needed to make every day: stock, sales and customer views that teams could trust. The roadmap set out how fragmented data would move into a single enterprise platform with clearer ownership and governance.

Master data management, the Enterprise Data Dictionary and the Data Council were developed as operating foundations, not side documents. Reporting products were then designed around self-service access to the stock, sales and customer data teams used most.

What We Delivered

The work produced an enterprise data platform roadmap, a master data management framework and an Enterprise Data Dictionary for critical business data. A data governance framework and cross-functional Data Council gave the organisation a way to manage standards beyond the initial programme.

Three self-service reporting products went live for stock, sales and customer information, replacing slower manual reporting with governed operational views.

Outcomes and Impact

The programme established a shared enterprise data platform and embedded a governance structure to support consistent data management across the business. Three self-service reporting products went live, giving teams faster access to trusted operational data while reducing reliance on manual reporting.

The wider data strategy now had a practical foundation: a scalable platform, agreed governance and live reporting products that teams could use.
